Well, I'm back again. Due partly to school but mostly to my own laziness, I haven't posted in quite a while, even though many many things have happened. In mostly chronological order, one silver dollar died after getting wedged in the castle. I managed to push him loose, but he didn't recover and ended up being flushed. Over the time since my last post, my brother's Betta has gotten some mild fin rot which has not gone away under treatment, and I plan to order some aquarium salt and medicine. We got 2 more ghost catfish to go with the one in the main tank, and 2 danios to make a nice school in my aquarium. The danios and catfish took ages for the fish store guy to net, and were put in the same bag. The danios have bits of pink in them, almost like a cross between the pink and normal danios. Unfortunately during the shenanigans to separate them for their respective tanks, one of the ghost catfish must have gotten damaged, as he was dead the next morning (so much death, I must be a terrible fish keeper) and when I put the danios in my tank, I realized that they were tiny compared to my giants, and the smallest one has spent the last while hiding near the filter, although I am hopeful that he will come out as time goes on and he grows.
The tanks seem to be more comfortable now, as the 2 remaining glass catfish have bonded, and although they still spend most of their time in the same hiding place behind the filter that has become their birthright, they come out much more often than the one ghost catfish did while he was solo.
Along with this, the glowlights have become much more active, spending most of their time in the mid level of the tank, and darting around a bit. Most recently, I went to the fish shops this last Saturday and got a bunch of panda corydoras catfish. I know I am pn the edge of my tank's and the main tank's bioload, but these little guys are just awesome and I just don't think an aquarium is complete without a catfish element (The ghost catfish don't count-they stay near the top and hardly ever move), and the cooler water they need is perfect for my Danios and fine for my Angelfish.
I ended up getting seven Corys: three for my tank, and four for the main one. Although I am still working on lowering the temperature, they seem to be doing great. They dart around and nibble on the ground and just look super awesome. Meanwhile, I have grown very attached to the angelfish, and I love watching them wiggle to try and get me to feed them. I give the Corys a chance at scavaging by putting some food in a cup of tank water and letting it sink so that I can pour it in for them while the angels attack the surface. There are few things awesomer than watching an angel going after food- the way their mouths come out is incredible.
So much has happened since I last posted that I will need to make another post to go over how the fish are doing. Expect that this week or, considering my track record, maybe later.
